An EDM for England

An EDM for England Originally posted on the CEP website

Frank Field has submitted the following EDM this morning:

This House should establish a select committee to report on the case for and against establishing an English Parliament.

Short, sweet and very difficult for anyone to object to – however, not objecting to an EDM is not the same as signing up to one. We wish the EDM well and encourage our members, supporters and allies to write to their MPs asking for them to sign.

This isn’t the first EDM Mr Field has submitted on the subject of an English parliament. The following was submitted in 2007 (link to full details of this EDM)

That this House notes that those polls that have questioned the English report a clear majority in favour of an English parliament; and further notes that it is this issue, and not Scottish independence or even House of Lords reform, that is the issue that voters now put at the top of their priorities for constitutional reform.

Only 20 MPs signed.

The new EDM is worded far better and hopefully most MPs will now recognise the need to do something about the England questions – a committee into establishing (or should that be re-establishing) an English Parliament is the bear minimum we deserve and long overdue.

Please get your MP to sign EDM 2426. Write to them here, but please consider telephoning them or calling in person so you can really get across how strongly you feel.

Any ideas on how we can help this EDM along please let us know in the comments.
